Are your pants worth $54M?
Thursday, June 28th, 2007Finally, honesty beats idiocy. Lately I’ve wondered why we have let ourselves become the laughing stock of the world. This story definitely got international exposure. I actually held my breath waiting on the Judges opinion! Just knowing that there could be some miniscule obsolete law on the books somewhere that would somehow make this guy, this idiot win his case. He sued because a dry cleaners supposedly lost a pair of his favorite pants (which they found a day later). Pant’s he claims are worth $1100. After 2 years and trying to settle the case for up to as much as $12,000, the Plaintiff refused, saying that the sign in the window said “satisfaction guaranteed” and he was not satisfied, and that was worth $54M to him! The Plaintiff actually had the nerve to tell the Judge in the case that he believed that if the sign was in place, it was the proprietors responsibility to do “whatever was requested” of the customer to make him happy, regardless of how absurd or unreasonable it might be! Hello? What planet are you on? ANYTHING? Yeah, Right, Sure. Anyone surprised that the Defendants have since taken down the “Satisfaction Guaranteed” sign?
Working in the legal profession, I know that the bottom line is you dont defend right or wrong, you defend the right to due process and fair trials. The whole, “100 guilty go free so that 1 innocent never goes to jail” principle. . . but geez-o-peet. Some times it just really gets out of hand. He’s made a mockery of the Court and the legal system here, and just being able to get the matter to trial was a joke. I’m so glad Judge Bartnoff put him in his place. Honestly? He’ll appeal, he will draw this out as long as possible. Ignorant enough to not realize he has made himself look like the fool he is, he will press on until he has exhausted every judicial remedy available to him, meanwhile putting the poor defendant’s through living hell. I hope the Chungs sue his a$$ for what he’s done to them, but my guess is, they just want it to be overwith and be left alone, finally.ÂÂ
I work in Washington DC and the fact that the District is even considering letting the man keep his job as an Administrative Judge after this is pathetic. But then, again, they re-elected Marion Barry, twice, after been caught red handed with drugs and hookers . . . kind of like putting the fox in charge of the hen house. . .
P.S.: Check this out! I think its a great idea!!
