Two kids: He, living in New Orleans, LA and She, living in Biloxi, MS decided to get hitched. On Friday the 16th, they went to the courthouse in Biloxi where they were told, of all things, you have to be 21 years old, or have your parents permission! What?! Well, fine then. . . they showed up at 4:45pm on Friday afternoon to get the marriage license with no parental permission, so what did the Court do? Called their parents, of course. (He was 20 and She was 19) With all the i’s dotted and the t’s crossed, the license was then granted.
Justice of the Peace for Harrison County, Mississippi, Dewey Lawrence, suggested we get hitched at his home, just down the street from the Court, and a much nicer setting :) They agreed, thinking, “what the heck!”
So on Saturday, January 17, 1981 at 5pm, they went to the fine home of Judge Dewey Lawrence, where the Judge politely asked his wife to turn off the tv and come witness the marriage. (She only turned down the sound!) Within 5 minutes the I-DO’s were said and those kids were now officially married
and the celebrating began!ÂÂ
That was us! Those impetuous, carefree, wild and crazy kids!ÂÂ
Now, here we are. Twenty-seven years have given us 3 beautiful grown sons and a (so far just one) wonderful daughter-in-law.ÂÂ
We’ve lived in 2 countries, 5 states, and 14 houses! Our kids attended a total of 19 different schools (yikes! Adam “wins”, with 9 of those being his, including one Department of Defense school, in Portugal; Justin had the fewest changes with only attending 4 schools and Jared had 6). We’ve had 24 vehicles (I think I counted them all!), 6 dogs and 2 cats, 3 hamsters and too many fish, oh, and a ferrettÂÂ
Thanks to an indoor football tackle, we had 1 visit from paramedics, concluding with 3 staples to put Justin’s head back together. We’ve had 6 7 broken bones, 2 heart surgeries, 2 kidney surgeries, and 6 other “various” surgeries. We had 3 sets of stitches. And lest not forget the almost-lost-an-eye incident of recent fame.
All in all, I’d say we’ve lived a very lively and wonderful life, and have quite a lot more to look forward to!ÂÂ
D, you are the ying to my yang, the carrots to my peas, the icing to my cake. So many times we are each others opposite, but so often, that is what makes us work so well together. When all is said and done, I think we make a pretty good team. Looking at our family, I’m convinced we do good work! I’m looking forward to the next 27 years of my life together with youÂÂ
Always and forever,
K
