Delegated Authority

In the past week, I have found out that I can, most likely, graduate in August instead of December.  That is great news!  However, it comes with many, many strings attached.  That means the process of picking and applying to law schools must commence.

My first step was to meet with an advisor with expertise on such things as timelines/scores/study techniques - to study for the LSAT, when to take the LSAT (it is only offered 4 times a year), when and how to acquire all the necessary paperwork for the admissions process, including letters of recommendation and a personal essay (which can vary with the schools applied to), transcripts. . . you get the idea.  All of this would be for a September 2011 admission… a year and a half away!

In theory by June, I need to have studied the material, figured out my “path” to discerning the true questions and answers (apparently method of dissecting the question is very important to giving the correct answer), and have taken 30 (or preferably more) sample exams (timed), etc.  Oh, and there is still the little annoying details that also have to be done…you know, a full-time job and finishing the Spring and Summer semesters of school! 

I’ve decided that the best way for me to attack this is to post a BIG calendar in my room, showing all the target dates and due dates, and my progress.  That way it won’t slip my mind, and will also keep me focused when it gets to be too much (and it will get to be too much).

I’m overwhelmed just thinking about it!

I’ve decided to start trying a few new foods.  (don’t laugh!) 

I am not sure how far I will go with this, but I figured its about time.  I’m not even sure why I decided that I should try new foods.  I guess it goes along with the ‘new me’.  I doubt I’ll be as impressive as Adam, trying, basically, one new food/vegetable a month.  I don’t think I’m *that* open minded.  However, thoughts of baby steps in widening my food horizons have crossed my mind lately so I figured, what the heck!

Today I tried yogurt.  Yeah, I know, all of you out there groaning.  Well, I’ve never liked the smell… or the thought of cultured milk being tasty.  But today?  All negative thoughts went out the window, and I had a serving of Yoplait strawberry yogurt.  I will begrudgingly admit it was pretty good.  Not ‘its tastes like pudding’ good, but acceptable nontheless. 

I may just have to have some more one day.

I’ve never minced words when it comes to how much I love my family, that is for sure.  They just dont come any better!  But today, well, I want to talk about friends.  I talk a lot (shush!), and you’d think I would have the ability to be more eloquent with what I say.  I’m not.  I’m just me.  Just understand that I always speak from my heart, no matter how inept it comes out sounding!

See, many years ago, I crossed paths with some really wonderful people.  In some cases, the time we shared was short- months, a year here and there.  But we “clicked.”  Life took its twists and turns, and I moved.  A lot.  From everywhere from (I’ll start at the age of 16, or this post will be entirely too long!) Texas, North Carolina, to Maryland, Louisiana, Mississippi, Louisiana (again), California, Portugal, California (again), Virginia and Maryland (again, and again, and again).  In some cases, they moved :).  Regardless.  I digress.  Again. life took over and time passed.  Fast.

Recently, especially with the advent of my introduction to FaceBook, I have had the pleasure of reconnecting with those friends.  You know what?  Its like we never missed a beat.  Like 20-30 years have not passed, like time stood still waiting for us to catch up.  These friends, they are the kind that you just can’t live a full life without.  (Re)Acceptance, warts and all, with n’ary the bat of an eye.

All of this is to say,  I’m so glad we have this opportunity to reconnect, that geographical distance is nothing but an annoyance, and that we have new opportunities to share, now and in the future.
